LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Benguet Caretaker Congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Go Yap proposed to the new administration of the State-run Benguet State University (BSU) the put up of a techno hub to serve as an added attraction in university and to allow the public easy access to establishments.
Yap, who chairs the powerful House Committee on Appropriations, said the proposed techno hub of the university should be established in a suitable area in accordance with the comprehensive land use plan (CLUP) and the proposed master plan being pushed by the institution’s new leadership to help in providing added attractions in the municipality in addition to the existing strawberries.
He advised the BSU administration to be extra careful in giving away some of its land holdings as the potential of these can be maximize in generating substantial resources to elevate the status of the higher education institution to several notches for it to move on to greater heights as envisioned by concerned stakeholders.
Congressman Yap welcomed the plan of incumbent BSU president Dr. Felipe S. Comila to put up a government center in a strategic area but the same must be complimented with the establishment of the techno hub to provide the needed services and attractions in the capital town, especially that it is a fast developing locality amidst its limitations on land area.
The lawmaker pointed out that BSU must continue to be a catalyst for development not only in the province, but also for northern Luzon, being the only university helping advance the state of agriculture in the region as Benguet remains as the country’s major producer of highland vegetables being sold in the different markets nationwide.
According to him, BSU has bright prospects to be one of the well-known universities in the world if it can pursue the present administration’s vision, mission, goals and objectives which are aligned with his desire to continue working out the development of the province into one of the country’s major economic drivers.
Congressman Yap asserted that by appropriately managing the institution’s land holdings, BSU can pave the way for robust development that will be instrumental in enhancing the various economic activities and sources of livelihood of the people thus significant improving the living condition of families.
He emphasized that BSU must formulate programs, projects and activities aligned with the development thrusts of its agency partners, local governments and the private sector, aside from providing the youth with quality education, for the institution to continue establishing a legacy for its graduates and the different sectors that it is working for.
Yap committed to assist BSU realize the present administration’s vision, mission, goals and objectives to contribute in improving the status of the university and be instrumental in sustaining the delivery of improved quality education to the youth.
