Flora, Apayao – Apayao chess prodigy Woman National Master (WNM) Mhage Sebastian and her younger sister Ghierzen Lhou snatched four (4) silver medals during the 21st ASEAN Age Group Chess Championship held recently in Bangkok, Thailand.
WNM Sebastian, 17, who was chosen as the Philippine Flag bearer during the opening ceremony led her team in securing three (3) silver medals in Standard, Rapid and Blitz Games.
Meanwhile, Palarong Pambansa bound younger Sebastian, a double gold medalist during the recent 2023 Cordillera Administrative Regional Athletic Association (CARAA) Meet, showed her solid form in the Blitz Games under 12 years old Girls category and helped her team bagged a Silver Medal.
With the recent good showing of WNM Sebastian, she shall represent the Philippines this coming August 3-11, 2023 in the 7th Eastern Asian Youth Chess Championship in Hainan, China, in under-18-girls category.
WNM Sebastian is under rigorous training as she aims to nail her much coveted Woman International Master (WIM) Title.
With this upcoming international tournament, her family requests for support and prays that their daughter will finally be given a good break, setting another record as the first ever WIM in Region Cordillera and in the far Northern Luzon. By JC Marquez
