ITOGON, Benguet – A 50-year old miner died after he was buried by rocks and debris while he and his nephew were working inside their private tunnel at Manganese, here, Thursday.
Police authorities identified the fatality as Narciso Pigas Segundo, 50, married, miner, and a resident of Bet-ang, Ampucao, Itogon, Benguet.
Initial police investigation showed the victim and his nephew went inside their private mine tunnel to test the quality of rocks and debris inside when some rocks reportedly fell on him that prompted him to request his nephew to seek for help from their neighbors.
Rescuers immediately responded to the mine tunnel and were able to extract the lifeless body of the victim several hours later.
His remains was brought to his residence for him to be given the appropriate wake and burial rites.
