LUNA, Apayao – The provincial government through the PSWDO, the Federation of Senior Citizens, and municipal governments organized an activity specifically for the elderlies of the province in celebrating the Elderly Filipino Week on October 18, 2023, at ECBJr Evacuation Center and Multi-Purpose, San Isidro Sur in this town.
Over 350 senior citizens from different municipalities of the province attended the celebration.
The event aimed to underscore the vital role of the elderly in nation-building, emphasizing their rights and welfare under the theme “Honoring the Invaluable Legacy of Filipino Senior Citizens,” aligning with Proclamation No. 470 (s. 1994), designating a week of October as Linggo ng Katandaang Filipino.
The celebration included a special recognition for senior citizens celebrating birthdays in October, featuring contests, such as the Chorale and Zumba Dance Competition.
Provincial Administrator Atty. Edmar Pascua expressed gratitude to yApayao senior citizens, urging the creation of environments that address their needs and recognize their dreams, building intergenerational relationships for empathy and community spirit.
“Let us take this opportunity to thank our Senior Citizen’s here in the Province of Apayao for their contributions and sacrifices. Let us establish environments where their needs are addressed, their demands are heard, and their dreams are recognized. We can bridge the gaps between different ages by creating intergenerational relationships, which will promote empathy, understanding, and a feeling of community,” he said.
Meanwhile, Flora Mayor Rodolfo B. Juan, encouraged everyone to honor and embrace the invaluable presence of the elderly, highlighting their role as living testaments to the community’s rich heritage, carrying a wealth of experiences, wisdom, and stories deserving utmost respect. By PIO Apayao
