MANKAYAN, Benguet – Municipal and barangay officials lauded Benguet Caretaker Congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Go Yap for taking time out from his busy schedule to visit the municipality and interact with them.
Yap, who chairs the powerful House Committee on Appropriations, arrived in the municipality Saturday morning at the Lepanto air strip and immediately visited the Lepanto Executive House before proceeding to the municipal hall for a short dialogue with municipal and barangay officials.
Mayor Frenzel A. Ayong said that Rep. Yap’s desire to visit the different parts of the province only shows his concern to look into the needs of the people in the remote villages for him to be able to make the necessary representation with concerned government agencies to prioritize the implementation of the priority needs of the residents in the said places.
“We deeply appreciate the real intent of Rep. Yap to show to us a new brand of public service that cuts across the cross-section of the society. We will continue to pray he will be given by our Almighty Father with good health and the needed strength to allow him to put in place his priority development projects in the different parts of the province,” Mayor Ayong stressed.

For the past several months, Yap had been visiting the different municipalities and barangays in the province to have a feel of the way of life of the people in these areas and personally listen to their issues and concerns for him to be able to bring the matters to the attention and appropriate action of concerned government agencies.
Mayor Ayong stated the evident desire of Congressman Yap to bring to the countryside the needed government services continues to motivate him to ensure he can visit the remote communities and bring to the people the good news that there is a public servant raring to help in improving the status of the rural areas to be economically viable for potential investors.
According to him, the lawmaker continues to show a new brand of leadership worthy of emulation not only by local politicians but also those serving in the national government for them to be fully aware of the real situation in the countryside too help them craft appropriate strategies, programs and projects to address the issues and concerns of the people.
He added that residents and local officials have been eager to personally meet and interact with Rep. Yap and that his recent visit to the municipality brought bright prospects that the priority development projects of the municipal government will be given attention by the concerned government agencies to address said problems of the people.
Mankayan is one of the first-class municipalities in the province that rely on mining and agriculture as the primary sources of income in the town’s 12 barangays where the upland barangays are the producers of major agricultural crops while the lower barangays host the operation of large-scale and small-scale mining.
