LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – The Benchmark team amassed 349.5 over-all points to secure the most-coveted top plum and reigned supreme in the 1st Pagalaw tan Olupan ed Gobyerno Itanduro (POGI) Sportsfest of the provincial government.
The Benchmark earned 95.5 more points to edge archrival Warriors which settled in 1st runner-up spot with 254 points.
Landing as 2nd runner-up, the Generals scored229.5 points. Third to sixth runners – up were: Legislators 154 points, Builders 152.5 points, Medics 145 points and Financiers 109.5 points.
Governor Amado ‘Pogi’ I. Espino, III led the POGI sportsfest closing ceremonies during the Capitol’s Christmas Party at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center last December 16 where the winners in individual and team sports were recognized.
The month-long sportsfest, which formed part of the employee development thrust of the provincial administration, saw intense battle of the seven competing teams vying for supremacy in various categories of nine sporting events, including the cheerdance competition and search for sportsfest’s muse.
Sports director Modesto Operania, the sportsfest event chairperson, bared that the Benchmark team was the highest pointer in six events, namely: badminton, cheerdance, fun run, sportsfest’s muse, table tennis and volleyball. The top team was also the second highest pointer in basketball, lawn tennis and tug-of-war while ranking third in track events.
The Warriors relied on track events and tug-of-war, settled second in cheerdance, badminton and placed third in basketball, sportsfest muse and table tennis.
The Generals, on the other hand, prevailed as highest pointer in basketball and lawn tennis, second in chess and third in fun run and volleyball.
The Legislators dominated in chess and ranked third in lawn tennis while the Builders team settled second in table tennis and volleyball and third place in tug-of-war.
The Medics garnered second place in fun run and track events, and third place in chess and cheerdance while the Financiers was second in badminton and sportsfest muse.
