LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Benguet provincial officials headed by Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas and Vice Governor Ericson Lawagey Felipe led the cutting of the ribbon for the month-long painting exhibit at the provincial Capitol lobby in celebration of the 35th Cordillera Month.
The exhibit, which runs until July 29, features 66 paintings of young and adult local artists like Jordan Mang-osan, Eden Cawaing, and James Gabito. The youngest to participate in the exhibit is Cawaing’s 6-year-old daughter.
Governor Diclas said the exhibit is set to inspire aspiring Benguet artists and to promote the rich culture of the province through arts.
Further, Francis Likigan, Community Affairs Officer at the Governor’s Office, said some of the paintings are for sale saying interested buyers may contact the painters for details.
A similar activity was also part of the first Benguet BIYAG festival held last April which aimed at featuring the talents and skills of Benguet youth as well as their passion in the promotion and preservation of Benguet culture.
Diclas assured local artisans that the provincial government will support their endeavor to help in promoting their works.
He also urged the residents and visitors alike to patronize the works of local artists because they are partners of the province in the preservation and protection of the rich culture, heritage and traditions of the people of Benguet. By SAP Jr.
