Dumaguete City- The Department of Education (DepEd), through the Bureau of Learner Support Services, School Health Division (BLSS-SHD), conducted a Consultative Workshop on National Salt Iodization Program (NSIP) with 18 DepEd personnel at Southview Hotel, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental on July 15-19.
Pursuant to Republic Act 8172 Promoting Salt Iodization Nationwide, the ASIN law mandates DepEd through NSIP to intensify its advocacy against Iodine Deficiency Disorder (IDD) such as mental retardation, cretinism and goiter.
In response to the mandate, BLSS-SHD, DepEd oriented participants regarding the law and presented a comprehensive curriculum map emphasizing the subject area of integration.
Further, the workshop embarked on the development of lesson guides for Grades 7-10 in Science and Grades 7-9 in Health by integrating basic IDD concepts and efficient interventions to combat IDDs.
