BONTOC, Mountain Province – As the center of commerce, trade and education; crime activities in the capital town are still manageable.
This was reported by PMAJ Ryan Wakat, the OIC Chief of Police of the Bontoc Municipal Police Station (MPS) during the Municipal Peace and Order Council (MPOC) meeting on February 21, 2024, in Barangay Alab Oriente, Bontoc, Mountain Province.
PMAJ Wakat presented the comparative Crime Situation Update of which 12 total crime incidents were recorded by the Bontoc MPS on January 1, 2023, to February 20, 2023, while five were listed on January 1, 2024, to February 20, 2024. The five crime incidents included one robbery, two Violation of Presidential Decree 1602 or Illegal Gambling, one Violation of RA 7610 or Child Abuse Act, and one reckless imprudence resulting in physical injuries.
In the implementation of the Municipal Ordinances, topping the list are violators of the Municipal Traffic Code with a total of 728 covering from January 1, 2024, to February 20, 2024. The highest violation listed is Prohibited Parking with 333 followed by Unattended Parking with 235. Other violations recorded are No Helmet – 24, Wrong Mode of Parking- two, No Driver’s License -three, Obstruction -120, Load Limit-six, Wearing Slippers-two, Disregarding Traffic Enforcer-two, and Indecent Wear-one.
Meanwhile, 11 business establishments are liquor ban violators and were endorsed by the Bontoc MPS to the Municipal Treasury Office for collection of their respective fines.
In the Campaign against Loose Firearms, two have been surrendered voluntarily by a concerned citizen. In the Campaign against Illegal Logging, three incidents were recorded, and the lumbers were turned over to the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO)
These accomplishments are credited to the continuous conduct of checkpoints, Bakal Sita, and Mobile and Foot Patrols of the police personnel in their areas of jurisdiction.
