BAGUIO CITY – Thirty-two researchers/technical staff coming from the Department of Agriculture–Cordillera (DA-CAR) Research Division, Field Operations Division, DA-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-CAR, Provincial Agriculture Office–Mountain Province, and Benguet State University were capacitated in the concluded capability building activity on proposal preparation and packaging for DA–Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR) and Department of Science and Technology (DOST) funding. The three-day training was done hybrid from November 22-24, 2023 at the Baguio Animal Breeding and Research Center (BABRC), Dontogan, Baguio City.
Dr. Jonar I. Yago, professor and the Vice President for Research, Extension and Training of the Nueva Vizcaya State University served as the resource speaker. Yago is a seasoned and multi-awarded researcher, lecturer, research evaluator and a professor. He started his rich research background spending most of his early years doing research. He was able to receive approval to his various researches amounting to millions benefiting the community and the academe.
Yago comprehensively lectured on the technicalities of writing a project proposal, filling out project proposal forms of DA-BAR and DOST, statistical analysis using the Sirichai software and the use of artificial intelligence. Every after lecture, the participants were tasked to do hands-on activities that were later on compiled for presentation.
On the third day, project proposals on plant genetic resources project, heirloom rice project, assessment of information, education and communication materials, practical method for pregnancy detection in dairy cattle, organic chicken feeds, corn germplasm, biofertilizer, and two community-based participatory action researches were presented and given comments by the resource speaker. Most of the proposals were appreciated and given promise by Dr. Yago for his further evaluation and recommendation for proposed funding.
Yago encouraged the participants to continuously do research especially to the neophytes as he shared inspirational words for the participants in making a roadmap of their lives.
This activity is an initiative and one of the activities of the Cordillera Regional Research for Development and Extension Network towards strengthening the management and sustaining the operations of the Cordillera research in exploring other funding agencies like the DOST. By Javier A. Galac
