BAGUIO CITY – Apayao Governor and Regional Development Council (RDC) Chairperson, Hon. Elias C. Bulut, Jr. disclosed his plans for the region’s tourism sector during the Second North Luzon Travel Expo (NLTE) last November 25, 2023, in Camp John Hay, Baguio City.
Addressing the participants of said expo, Gov. Bulut emphasized the event’s role in the realization of Cordillera Regional Development Plan’s (RDP) goals for economic and social transformation.
Bulut outlined the potential ripple effects of a successful tourism surge, envisioning growth in hospitality, agriculture, entrepreneurship, and community engagement, and highlighted the unique cultural offerings of the region, from loom weaving products in Abra and Mountain Province to traditional tattoos in Kalinga and silver crafts in Baguio, among others.
“Our farmers will experience increased demand for fresh produce as they open their farms to agri-tourism; entrepreneurs seize opportunities in transportation, entertainment and eco-friendly initiatives; local communities promote experiential tourism by immersing visitors in our culture and engaging them in activities that would showcase our breathtaking and diverse natural surroundings,” he said.
A central theme in Bulut’s message was the importance of sustainability, inclusivity, and resilience in tourism efforts. “We are committed to charting a course that not only revitalizes our tourism but does so in a manner that respects our environment, preserves our cultural heritage, and uplifts the lives of our local communities,” he underscored.
He then urged participants to integrate the rich local weaving industry into the tourism landscape, recognizing it as a cultural treasure that deserves support, saying, “By intertwining this craftsmanship with our tourism initiatives, we aim to celebrate our heritage while fostering economic growth within and among our regions.”
The RDC chairperson likewise encouraged active engagement, idea exchange, and partnerships among participants to nurture a thriving, sustainable, and community-centric tourism industry. He expressed anticipation for the collaborations and initiatives that would emerge from the expo, aiming to pave the way for a renewed era of tourism for Northern Luzon.
“Our concerted efforts today will surely contribute and lead us towards our shared goal of a Matatag, Maginhawa at Panatag na Buhay. Together, let us pave the way for a renewed era of tourism that celebrates our local treasures and creates opportunities for our regions within North Luzon,” Bulut concluded.
The second NLTE was organized by the Department of Tourism in collaboration with its regional offices in north Luzon. This expo served as a platform for promoting collaboration aimed at breathing new life into the local tourism industry.
