City officials recently commended and congratulated Easter Wahayna-Pablo for having been conferred the Leadership Award by the National Library of the Philippines and the Asian Foundation during the 2023 Search for Gawad Pampublikong Aklatan (GPA) awarding ceremony held on August 25, 2023 at the National Library of the Philippines auditorium.
In a resolution authored by Councilor Betty Lourdes F. Tabanda, city legislators stated that the local government is elated and extremely proud that the National Library of the Philippines and the Asia Foundation recognized the impact of Pablo’s works and accomplishments that inspires and motivates others to continue working for the good of the community.
The Gawad Pampublikong Aklatan Leadership Award is conferred by the National Library of the Philippines and the Asia Foundation to individuals who exhibit exemplary performance and demonstrate a profound commitment to advancing literacy, education, cultural awareness, national, social and economic progress and technological innovations within their communities and beyond.
City Librarian Pablo is a hardworking, innovative and focused in transforming the City Library to become more than a repository of books but an edifice of expanded library services.
The council stipulated that her resolute determination to raise the level of services of the City Library from conventional functions to digital and technological enhancements to provide for timely and relevant information to the users.
Despite the insurmountable challenges, such as the lack of manpower, and insufficient budget, the council claimed that Pablo conquered the odds.
She was able to propel the City Library to enriching lives with immersive and inclusive learning aside from the fact that activities that encouraged community engagement flowed through, such as cultural forums, research seminars and webinars, makerspace and robotic events thematic contests, outreach activities, tutorials, guitar lessons, genealogy services, regular storytelling at the park on Saturdays and other partnership programs.
Further, the body stipulated that the City Librarian showed exceptional commitment to realize the vision of the public library as an access and equalizer of a well informed and dynamic society, thus, she devoted much of her time and knowledge outside and beyond the call of duty, in transforming the City Library as an accessible source of timely, relevant and accurate information.
With her positive outlook, Pablo has constantly been a force in pursuing the library’s mission of enriching lives through the City Library’s services, programs and resources, all of which foster immersive and inclusive learning experiences for everyone from all walks of life.
