The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) will hold one of its major Register Anywhere events in the city at the Peoples Park on Friday, February 23, 2024 purposely to empower qualified voters to register in the places where they intend to cast their votes for the May 12, 2025 mid-term elections.
City Election Officer lawyer John Paul Martin said that election officers from Baguio and Benguet will converge at the Peoples Park on the aforesaid date to facilitate the registration of qualified voters in the places in Baguio and Benguet where they intend to cast their votes in next year’s polls.
He claimed that voters wanting to vote in any part of Benguet but who are pre-occupied with their busy schedules at work can now register without having to go home to their places and register because the election officers will be in the city to facilitate their registration.
On the other hand, voters from the different parts of Benguet who want to transfer their registration or register in the city can also avail of similar services during the said event.
Further, Comelec officials headed by Chairman George Erwin Garcia will be joining the grand float parade of this year’s Panagbenga festival on board the Comelec float to aggressively promote the Register Anywhere program and empower qualified voters to register in the places where they intend to cast their votes in the exercise of their right of suffrage enshrined in the Constitution.
Aside from the Register Anywhere program, the Comelec Baguio will hold various offsite registrations in the various barangays to ensure that qualified voters will register in time for the May 2025 mid-term elections.
Those qualified to register are individuals who are 18 years old on election day and those who are not registered voters in any part of the country.
The ongoing voter registration in all Comelec offices around the country started last February 12, 2024 and will commence on September 30, 2024 to pave the way for qualified voters to register in their places where they intend to cast their votes for the upcoming elections.
Initially, the poll body targeted around 3 million new registrants who will avail of the ongoing registration to be able to participate in the May 2025 polls. By Dexter A. See
