TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The city government through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) celebrates the annual Day Care Workers Week with the nationwide theme “Katuwang ng pamayanan sa paghubog ng batang Maka- Diyos, Maka-Bayan, Maka-Tao at Maka-Kalikasan”
The activity, held at MJK Resort in Purok 6 Bulanao, aims to recognize the contributions of day care workers who provide substitute parental care and early childhood education to children ages 3-4 years old in government-operated day-care centers.
CSWD Officer Susana Daluping, in her message, described the day care workers as unsung heroes because they never falter in their role in providing early childhood education despite their limited honorarium.
The two-day event is also a capability-building opportunity for them to learn from each other and develop more skills to make them better partners in child development.
Enrique Baliang, representative of City Mayor Darwin Estrañero, addressed the participants human development is one of the priorities of the Estrañero administration in reference to the support given by the city government to the 117 day care workers.
He said duty of a daycare worker entails a lot of challenges from preparing visual aids and teaching kids, to understanding temperaments and behavior of every day care child.
Also present on the opening day of the celebration was Bulanao Barangay Chairman Cosme Gunnawa expressing his admiration to the patient and skilled child development workers in taking care of children while they are away from home.
Also attending the event was Councilor Eduardo Sacayle, Chairman of the Committee on Education, announcing the increase in the monthly honorarium of day care workers from the city government with the resolution he filed at the Sangguniang Panlungsod which already passed the third and final readings.
The official believes that the workers deserve the monetary increase for all their sacrifices.
For the opening day, the activities were essay writing, visual aide making, chorale and dance presentations. More activities were prepared on the culminating day on June 9.
