TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The Department of Education (DepEd)-Tabuk, in collaboration with the Federated Parents-Teachers Association (FPTA) of Tabuk City, conducted the Basic Education in-action in all level of Governance and Sectors Working for Initiative for Success (BAGWIS) at Barangay Cabaruan to aid students at Cabaruan Elementary School in improving their performance in class.
BAGWIS is made up of a variety of activities, such as symposia, reading improvement programs, and more, according to Roliza Tapang, FPTA Secretary.
The previous pandemic epidemic, according to Tapang, led to an increase in the number of students having trouble understanding the teachings in their schools. However, although helping children become better readers is their main objective, BAGWIS also cover other topics to help cultivate moral character.
To help the kids develop moral character and teach them about values, some pastors from the CBACRO attended. Members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) also participated in the program and lectured on anti-bullying, anti-drug use, and anti-insurgency topics.
The program to offer IEC on fire prevention and safety included participation from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP). “Kailangan metlang nga aware tayu about fire prevention ken dagita simple lang nga first aid,” she said.
The Commission on Population Development (POPCOM) staff members were also tapped to discuss teen pregnancy and adolescent health due to the reported increase in early teen pregnancies.
“Kailangan nga maging aware da metlang nu inya outcome na nu agkamali da man ketdagijay dapat nga aramiden da ta healthy da nga kanayun ken haan da kuma maawan,” she said.
Tapang expressed her wish that the students would remember what they had been taught and that parents will likewise look out for their kids’ welfare and education.
