TABUK CITY, Kalinga – DICT Assistant Secretary (Asec) Philip Varilla conducted a two-day onsite inspection of Tabuk City’s connectivity and infrastructure capabilities on July 23–24 for the launch of the DICT’s Government Network Program (GovNet) in the province.
According to DICT-Kalinga Provincial Officer Mona Lisa Vizcarra, the Asec’s inspection is part of the initial phase of their proposed provincial GovNet plan to interconnect all government agencies in Kalinga through Fiber Optic Cable (FOC) to hasten the delivery of government services to the people.
“As part of the GovNet’s initial phase, the Asec’s inspection focused on evaluating towers, topography, and existing connectivity in Kalinga with the goal to interlink all government agencies, including academic institutions and barangays, and to complement private telecom services in providing reliable internet signals to remote areas,” she explained in vernacular.
She stated that the inspection assessed the plan’s feasibility, explored using existing towers, and established potential partnerships with local government units for efficient GovNet execution, and that the plan will further undergo a series of evaluation phases prior to its approval.
GovNet is part of the Department of Information and Communications Technology’s (DICT) nationwide campaign to create a unified network of interconnected government agencies for improved services and cost-effective internet solutions. This program supports President Marcos’ vision of accessible internet connectivity in all areas of the country. By Ruth Cupang
