BONTOC, Mountain Province – In an effort to prioritize mental health in a global scale, the DOH-Health Promotion Bureau, in collaboration with Cordillera office of the Department of Health (DOH-CAR) recently conducted the Biyaheng Kalusugan for Mental Health with the theme: Make Mental Health and Well-being for All a Global Priority Program in this capital town. At least 150 students, faculty and staff from the Mountain State Polytechnic College (MPSPC) took part in the caravan.
“I appreciate all the young people who have been here to listen and witness the fun and the realization that you as the future of the Philippines should make very good decisions and that decision is to take care of yourself, particularly your mental health,” DOH-CAR Regional Director Rio L. Magpantay expressed during the activity.
Magpantay committed PhP 200,000 for mental health initiatives in each municipality and PhP2.7 million for the entire province, placing a significant focus on promoting mental health and well-being, particularly among the youth of Mountain Province.
One of the highlights of the program include the Project RISE UP (Reaching Individuals for Self-Empowerment Through Unified Partnership) which was initially launched in the region and aims to create a society that values mental health, empowers individuals, and provides equitable access to quality mental health services.
Biyaheng Kalusugan serves as the regional community activation of the seven healthy habits, emphasizing the fifth healthy habit: “Care for Yourself, Care for Others”. The program features activities that promote self-care, encourage seeking professional help when necessary, and foster a positive attitude towards mental well-being and supporting others on their mental health journeys.
This health promotion initiative aligns with DOH Health Secretary Herbosa’s 8-point agenda. Emphasizing the significance of the 6th Agenda, ‘Ginhawa ng isip at damdamin,’ entails advocating for mental health, which includes the therapeutic use of art and culture. By DOH-CAR
