City officials recently requested the Department of Public Works and Highways-Baguio City District Engineering Office (DPWH-BCDEO) to include the provision of sidewalks in their road widening projects in the city.
Under Resolution No. 204, series of 2024, local legislators stated that the provision of a sidewalk is necessary for the safety and security of the public and to prevent accidents that may happen at any time which will endanger life, limb and property.
Earlier, the DPWH-BCDEO implemented a series of road widening projects in the different parts of the city over the past several years in relation to its road improvement project to provide the public with good roads for the benefit of the greater majority of the populace.
The council claimed that there is a high presence of foot traffic or pedestrians even along the major national roads in the city such as Kennon road, Marcos highway, and Quirino highway which warrants the need for concerned government agencies and the local government to ensure that the constructed roads will have their respective sidewalks for pedestrians.
Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the DPWH-BCDEO for information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. By Dexter A. See
