City officials recently requested the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) and the Cordillera office of the Land Transportation Office (LTO-CAR) to intensify the implementation of the pertinent provisions of Republic Act (RA) 10586 or the Anti-Drunk and Drug Driving Act of 2013.
Under Resolution No. 203, series of 2024, local legislators stated that there is a need for the proactive response by concerned law enforcers from both the national and local governments to avoid the occurrence of accidents due to driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol to prevent forceable accidents that may happen at any time which may endanger lives and properties.
RA 10586 penalizes any person found driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, dangerous drugs, and similar substances.
Further, Section 5, Article XIII or Ordinance No. 7, series of 1984 or the Comprehensive Traffic and Transport Ordinance of Baguio City mandated that no person shall drive a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor or other incapacitating drugs.
The council claimed that an unfortunate event happened sometime on March 19, 2024 where a lady who was walking along Kennon Road within Poliwes barangay died after being allegedly run over by a reported drunk driver.
The council asserted the need for the concerned law enforcement agencies to intensify the implementation of the pertinent provisions of the Anti-Drunk and Drug Driving law to prevent the occurrence of untoward incidents that may cause the loss of lives and inflict damages to properties in the coming days.
