SAN JUAN, Abra April 06 – A former village chief and the alleged provincial coordinator of Senator Ronald ‘Bato’ dela Rosa was gunned down by still unidentified gun-wielding suspects near a quarantine checkpoint at barangay Guimba, here, Sunday night.
Police authorities identified the fatality as Leo Barbosa alias Junong, the former punong barangay of Guimba, San Juan, Abra who had been recently active in the provision of medical supplies and relief goods to the different barangays in the province.
Initial police investigation showed that the victim was approaching a checkpoint in their place when he was fired upon by still unidentified gun-wielding suspects who immediately fled from the crime scene after making sure that they were able to hit their target.
Barbosa has been actively involved in the distribution of relief assistance to the different Municipal Police stations and the different barangays in the fight against the dreaded Corona Virus Disease (COVID) 2019.
The victim was immediately rushed by concerned residents and law enforcers to the Abra provincial Hospital for medical treatment but he was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians due to the multiple gunshot wounds that he sustained from the shooting incident.
Probers are now ascertaining the motive of the suspects in the brutal murder of the former village chief and provincial coordinator of Senator dela Rosa in Abra.
