TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Mayor Darwin C. Estrañero on Tuesday personally turned over to the immediate family of the late Antonio Cobsin the P100,000.00 peso cash gift from the national government for centenarians.
Cobsin of Barangay Malin-awa was 103 years old when he died on September 2019. The P50,000 and P20,000 cash gift from the city and provincial LGU respectively, were given earlier bringing the total cash gift to P170,000 pesos.
The event was witnessed by Erlinda Taquiqui (SWAD-DSWD-Kalinga), Espirita Gamatero (OSCA-Tabuk City), and Estefania Baglinit (CSWDO-Tabuk City).
According to Baglinit, Assistant CSWDO, aside from the cash gift for centenarians, the city government continuously supports the welfare of the senior citizens with the provision of P500 pesos as monthly pension to augment the daily subsistence and other medical needs of indigent senior citizens. The CSWDO also extends a P5,000 burial assistance to the families of deceased senior citizens.

The Office of the Senior Citizen Affairs which is under the Mayor’s Office monitors the welfare of 7, 564 senior citizens of the city.
According to Gamatero, Chairman of OSCA-Tabuk City, 4,103 indigent senior citizens receive their P500 pesos monthly pension from the national government, 1,500 from the city, and 1010 from the provincial government.
Estrañero advised the senior citizens to avail of the benefits and services provided by the city government. He also asked them to support the projects and programs which draw investments to Tabuk City since the resulting increase of tax revenues also increases funding for their sector.
R.A. 9994, known as the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010, grants additional benefits for 60-years-old and above Filipino citizens. Benefit include a 500 pesos stipend to indigent senior citizens and discounts for various goods and services among others.
