BAGUIO CITY- Four schools participating in the 9th YMCA Inter-School Basketball Tournament that gave exposure and the experience for elementary and high school teams in the Baguio-Benguet areas were named champions in their respective divisions following the awarding ceremonies last December 6, 2015 at the YMCA gym here.
Participation of schools in the YMCA Inter-school Basketball tilt numbered to fifteen elementary teams and thirty teams for the High school to include six teams for girl’s basketball. The annual YMCA inter-school basketball tilt that started last September 5, 2015, the tournament being the longest played for young basketeers’ in the Cordillera Region compared to other school based basketball tournaments is something that students can look forward too every year.
Following the final result of the tournament; Saint Louis School Center bagged the championship for the elementary division with Easter College Elementary School coming in as 1st runner up, and BERKELEY elementary coming in 2nd runner up. Likewise Saint Louis University Laboratory High School bagged the championship for the High School Developmental Division followed by BERKELEY – B as 1st runner up and Baguio City National High School as 2nd runner up.
On the other hand, the Baguio City National High School girls team was awarded champion for the High School Girls Division followed by Saint Louis University Laboratory High School girls team as 1st runner up and BERKELEY School Girls team landed 2nd runner up. The highest division in the tournament the High School Boys Varsity Division was bagged by the University of the Cordilleras Grade School High School Varsity as Champions followed by the Saint Louis University Laboratory High School Varsity in second place and BERKELEY School in third place.
Awards were also given to disserving players in each division in accordance with their game performances as noted in their game statistics for the best player award as follows; Lord Byroneil Bernabe for the elementary division, Magnus Ines of Saint Louis University Laboratory High School for the High School Developmental division, Fidela Angayen of Baguio City National High School for the High School Girls Division, and Alvin Motas of the University of the Cordilleras Grade School High School for the High School Varsity division.
The YMCA Cup Award, a special award given to teams in participation in the tournament was also awarded to Star College elementary school for elementary and Berkeley for High School. Also gracing the culmination of the 9th YMCA Cup Inter-School Basketball tilt was YMCA PE and Sports Committee Mr. Gerome Gawidan.
