TUBA, Benguet – A 67-year old security guard died after he was rammed over by a speeding van that lost its brakes along Marcos highway, particularly at the Rabbit compound, Upper Poblacion, here, Thursday afternoon.
Police authorities identified the fatality as Ludovico Caranto Poyaoan, 67, married, and resident of Marcos Highway, Upper Poblacion, Tuba, Benguet while the suspect was named as Danilo Martinez Calonge, 60.
Initial police investigation showed that the suspect was driving the ill-fated van proceeding towards the lowlands when it reportedly lost its brakes that prompted the driver to maneuver the vehicle on the right side of the road.
Unfortunately, the vehicle rammed into the suspect who was walking on the right side of the road that caused his instantaneous death.
The victim’s body was brought to a Baguio-based funeral parlor with the permission of his relatives for him to be given the necessary wake and burial.
The suspect is now detained at the Tuba Municipal Police Station for documentation awaiting the filing of the appropriate charges against him.
