TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Following the success of CARAA Meet 2023 held in Baguio City, the City Special Concerns and Coordinating Office (CSCCO) has learned during the regional competition and now recommending to the city to incorporate games and events that are aligned under the programs of the Department of Education (DepEd).
Local Youth Development Officer Gkachay Claver from the CSCCO has announced this during the regular flag raising ceremony that it is high time to support local athletes by incorporating sports events that the city needs to focus on, especially those that are sanctioned by DepEd and other sports authorities.
He said there is an advantage if there is an empowerment of athletes in the city through programs in addition to their financial support that can be beneficial to those competing not only in the city-wide events but also in the national or international games.
He added there is a need for sports clubs to be established in the city to serve the requirements of athletes and train and develop them so they become more competitive in sporting events.
He said that they had learnt this from the Baguio City government, which is very supportive of the local athletes who practice consistently in their clubs and are successful both locally and internationally.
In response, Vice Mayor Dick Bal-o additionally stated that he would support the proposed Sports Code in the council.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod is where the proposed City’s Sports Code is still at the moment.
As recalled, after the CARAA Meet 2023, the city delegates bagged 15 gold medals, 24 silver and 56 bronze ranking fifth among all the contingents in the region. Through the proposal, the CSCCO is hopeful to level up in their ranking in the following years. By Ian Jefrey Addatu
