MANKAYAN, Benguet – The municipal government supported the difficult decision of the education department to move back the opening of classes to October 5, 2020 to allow the stakeholders to ensure their readiness in the implementation of blended learning.
Mayor Frenzel A. Ayong said moving back the opening of classes to October 5, 2020 was a laudable decision on the part of education officials because it will give more time for the government to patch up loopholes of the new normal learning as the earlier schedule for class opening on August 24, 2020 was too soon.
“We will surely have more time to prepare for emerging problems once classes will resume in October. We will continue our coordination with the stakeholders to identify possible problem areas and craft the appropriate solutions for the smooth roll out of classes by October,” Mayor Ayong stressed.
He added the municipal school board will convene from time to time to update the members with the latest orders from the education department on how to effectively and efficiently implemented blended learning in the municipality, especially that most of the enrolled students have opted to take the printed modules as the mode of their attending their regular classes.

According to him, the municipal government is ready to extend to the education department and the different schools in the municipality the needed support to ensure there will be a smooth class opening by October and for the sustained delivery and pick up of the modules to avoid undue interruption of classes by the time the situation will normalize or even in a new normal situation.
Mayor Ayong pointed out the municipal government fully supports the implementation of blended learning as one of the strategies to prevent the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) among the enrolled pupils and students and their teachers, but it is important for the concerned stakeholders to pinpoint what aspects where the local government can come in and help to avoid unnecessary disruptions in the conduct of regular classes in both the elementary and secondary levels.
He claimed that surely, the scheduled start of limited face to face learning by January will be also moved back by several months thus there will be more time for concerned stakeholders to prepare for issues and concerns that may arise in the preparatory stages so that appropriate solutions can be worked out.
The municipal mayor underscored that local officials do not want that the local government will be blamed later for any problems that may arise in the implementation of blended learning in the different schools, thus, he had time and again conducted a series of consultations with the stakeholders to work out the needed strategies and adjustments that have to be done to ensure that the quality of education for learners will not be compromised during the new normal way of learning.
