BAGUIO CITY- A construction worker was found lifeless on a footpath in the late afternoon of August 23, 2020 at Block 9, Purok 14, Cypress Point, Barangay Irisan, Baguio City.
The victim was identified as Michael Ying Viernes, 40 years old and a native of Fairview, Manila. He resides at Purok 14 of Barangay Irisan.
According to a witness, Viernes was seen lying on the footpath with bloodied clothes. The witness said that around 4 PM of August 23, a certain Ryan Badillo Almine, 34 years old, a native of Masbate and also a construction worker was having a drinking session with fellow workers in front of his residence at Block 9, Purok 14, Cypress Pt., Irisan. Viernes who was allegedly drunk that time came knocking on Almine’s gate several times challenging him to a fight.

Viernes went away when nobody is minding him but returned to Almine’s residence with a bolo. He continue to provoke Almine who in turn got irked and confronted Viernes. According to the witness, Almine chased Viernes.
Based on the accounts of the witness, after a while, Almine returned with blood on his hands. He entered his house and washed.
Meanwhile, other witness went their residences and saw Viernes already dead. Members of the Station 9 of the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) responded to the scene and seized Almine.
Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) who processed the area recovered the bolo and a knife. The body of the victim bore hack wounds on his left foot, left arm, chest, left knee, left part of his waist and left part of his back.
The cadaver was brought to the Baguio Memorial Chapels (BMC) while appropriate charges are being readied against Almine.
