TABUK CITY, Kalinga – On June 10, Mayor Darwin Estran֮ero complimented the Bago tribe for preserving their culture and custom despite the passage of time at the 22nd Bago National Cultural Society of the Philippines, Inc. (BNCSPI)-Tabuk City Chapter Annual General Assembly at the Tabuk Institute Gymnasium.
According to Estran֮ero’s statement, their attendance at the assembly alone would attest to their commitment to preserving their history for the foreseeable future.
The mayor continued, saying that in today’s world, children are losing some important morals, and that is why it is important for everyone to help them remember their roots and what makes them unique.
“Kas-anu tayu met ngay nga ipasa ti sumaruno nga henerasyon iti ug-ugali tayu nu haan tayu met pagtutung-tungan?” he said.
Estrañero further said that all indigenous peoples should preserve their own unique languages.
Although children nowadays learn to speak English mainly due to access to the internet and cable television and most parents use the language in their homes thus depriving their kids the chance to learn their tribal dialects.
The mayor reminded the attendees of their duty to raise their kids to be responsible people who adhere to both the law and their tribe’s teachings.
He urged the following generation to constantly keep their ancestry in mind, especially in light of interethnic marriages.
“We can only do that if we instill in their minds dagijay napintas nga ugali nga inpamana metlang dagijay nagannak tayu,” he stated.
The mayor also praised the Bago tribe for utilizing the rule of law and the Bible as a guide to resolve conflicts rather than resorting to violence, stating that they provided a good example for other tribes to follow.
