City officials recently encouraged all schools in the city to designate a space or area within its vicinity for arts, and creativity for their students.
Under Resolution No. 107, series of 2024, local legislators stated that areas such as schools play a vital role in sustaining the creative spirit of the city by providing enough opportunities for the students to fully develop their artistic skills and talents.
During the Scout Official for a Day (SOFAD) session held on October 23, 2023, the SOFAD Council adopted the proposal of SOFAD Councilor Raven F. Sobremonte that seeks to encourage all schools in the city to designate a space or area for arts and creativity.
The council anchored its decision on the policy of the State to give priority to education, science and technology, arts, culture, and sports to foster patriotism and nationalism, accelerate social progress, and promote total human liberation and development.
Earlier, Baguio was designated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a Creative City for Crafts and Folk Arts which made it the first Philippine city to be vested with the distinct honor of being part of creativity and innovation in building sustainable cities.
Ordinance No. 46, series of 2021 or the Creative Baguio City Council measure aims to come up with a more dynamic local creative community and is committed to supporting the United Nations Frameworks, particularly the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the New Urban Agenda.
The council expressed hope on the compliance of the schools to the aforesaid endeavor to help in developing the creativity of the youth for them to be able to continue bringing honor and pride to the city with their creative works in the future.
Copies of the approved resolution will be transmitted to the City Schools Division Office and the various schools in the city for their information, guidance, ready reference and further needed action. By Dexter A. See
