SAGADA, Mountain Province – The closing program of the “Kabataan sa Pukyutan: Adopt-A-Farm Youth to Livestock LSA” program for the six youths who finished the beekeeping training was held at Sagada Heritage Village Bee Farm, Balugan in this town on November 6, 2023.

The Sagada Heritage Village Bee Farm is an accredited learning site for the training on beekeeping.

The training was implemented by the Agricultural Training Institute-Cordillera Administrative Region (ATI-CAR) which signed a memorandum of agreement  with the training site and in partnership with the provincial government through the Provincial Veterinary Office. The ATI is an agency of the Philippine government under the Department of Agriculture (DA) and headed by ATI Training Director Charlie C. Sagudan. It is responsible for the training of agriculture extension workers and the DA’s clientele. It provides the training fees and incentives of the trainees.

The participants were trained for one month by Jayson O. Cam-ed, the owner of the bee farm together with his co-trainers namely Bradley O. Tocda-an and Rez Lizer E. Guanzo.

According to Cam-ed, each participant will receive one colony with three frames courtesy of the learning site.

The participants were Jayvan B. Dugao, Chavit K. Kiwang, Balanban A. Eleazar, Edward C. Balongyad, Johniel Pritz G. Cayat and Mark Laurenz Pinas.

Present during the program were Assistant Provincial Veterinarian and Dr. Doris C. Cobaldez representing Provincial Veterinarian Rodelio B. Bagawi, agriculturists Faith C. Pec-ao and Mario T. Sildon, veterinarian Kim Jay L. Dalasen.

During the closing program, a video summary of the activities done on the training was first shown then followed by the impression of all the participants. Afterwards, the certificates were awarded to the youths and to the trainors.

Meanwhile, Sagudan thanked Cam-ed and the PVET partners. He addressed the participants saying, “the youth is the hope of the fatherland and they should be engaged in the farm tapnu haan nga Facebook ken internet ti ar-aramiden da nu di ket actual. We need you guys to perform. They could develop their strength. So it came about nga adda daytoy 4H nga programa ken nabendisyunan tayu ta you’re all headed here sa Sagada Heritage Village Bee Farm where you can get a maximum engagement, exposure and all that. So napintas nga pag-adalan daytoy nga farm. We value this kind of partnership with the provincial government of Mountain Province and of course, the municipal government of Sagada and of course the learning site and the trainers who are here.”

The participants together with their trainers also rendered a song titled, “One Friend” as their presentation during the program.

Further, Cam-ed thanked the personnel of the ATI, PVET and all the participants who came to train as well as the technicians or his co-trainers. “Di bale ta adda metlang colonies nga maited kanyayu nga awan ijay program ngem nainayun ijay package tapnu maitultuloy yu ngay diyay panagtartaraken yu uray ada kayu idiay kunkunak ngay iyad-advice ko kanyayu nga ituloy yo ti iskwela yu karkaru dagitoy duwa nga ubbing. Ituloy yu. Sayang ti aldaw, saying ti panawen. Habang ages-eskwela ka ti kolehiyo, adda ti side-sidelinem nga beekeeping nga ti beekeeping ket patience metlang dayta. Kasla kanyayu nga agkakadwa, be humble. Makitak ket naragsak kayu metten. Idi un una ket haan da ngay nga interesado Idi bumaybayag ket ni maen-enjoy da mettenen, kasla nu mabalbalin ket saan mu pay mapagsisina isudan. Thank you kadakayu amin nga inmay,” he said.

Dr. Doris Cobaldez during her closing remarks inspired the participants in pursuing their studies. “Ket siguro as a message kanyayu lalo na yung mga nag graduate, maybe not only diyay training yu on how to produce, adda met kuma ti naadal yu iti biyag iti bee. Ti biyag iti bee ket sabali, they go as a colony kasla metlang iti kuton. Isunga uray iti diyay nga kabasbassit iti kuton ket maka build da iti bantay nga kasjay nga mabunag da iti daga just to build a house. Kasla metlang iti bee, nu kasanu iti panagtinnulong da nu kasanu nga adda maurnong nga maysa nga cup nga honey.” She related it to our environment here in the Cordillera like here in Mountain Province wherein our mountain is rich in trees and wild flowers. She also shared the information about the wild honey that has a particular kind of taste and is bought from Barlig which has a mossy forest but now we could hardly buy from them because they’re selling it to Baguio. Furthermore, she said “I-relate tayu diyay so we’ll appreciate daytoy kasasaad iti bee ta idi ket ti ubbing ket kabuteng da iti bee, ti kuna da lang ket agkagatkagat but kitaen tayu met iti biyag da and how they live. Nagmayat daytoy training yu ta at least ket ada hands on.” Lastly, she thanked everybody and hoped that when the participants will go home, they’ll be well and take with them the knowledge they learned from the training site besides the memories they had at Sagada.

Two personnel from the ATI acted as emcees namely technical support staff Lorna W. Sawac-Alboc and Rural Based Organization /4H Banner Program Focal Person Veronica B. Siloy.

The program ended with photo opportunities of the participants together with the trainers, personnel from the ATI and PVET Office. By MP Press Release
