TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Solo parenting is a grueling task for most, if not all, as there is no partner to share the responsibility. Solo parents juggle multiple responsibilities simultaneously, and with that, they often suffer from a multitude of stresses brought about by financial, physical, and mental responsibilities.
It’s a good thing that the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) of the city government continues to strengthen its self-enhancement and stress debriefing programs.
With this, another stress debriefing and enhancement program was conducted today by the CSWDO for the District III solo parents at the Grand Zion Hotel.
During the event, three major topics were discussed, namely: amended Solo Parent Welfare Act (R.A. 11861), responsible parenthood, and the presentation of the City Federation Constitution and its corresponding laws.
On the said orientation, solo parents were educated about solo parent categories, the issuance and benefits of a solo parent identification card, and other pertinent benefits, such as a comprehensive package for social protection, services from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, flexible work schedules, telecommuting, non-work discrimination, and parental leave.
In addition, they were also reminded that single parents are eligible for educational assistance for their children, child care facilities, social safety support, exemption from value added tax , automatic PhilHealth coverage, priority on housing projects, pensions, and subsidies.
Other stress debriefing topics will be discussed on the second day of the event tomorrow, and these activities are expected to equip solo parents with their rights and privileges, along with the effective ways to overcome the hurdles of solo parenting.
