LINGAYE, Pangasinan – Chief executives, commissioners and officers of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP) Pangasinan Council have expressed gratitude to Governor Amado T. Espino, (GATE) Jr. for the unwavering support of his administration to the scouting movement made visible by the construction of “the only GSP headquarters in the country that is built by a local government.”
This came up when GSP Pangasinan Council President Perla Cornel, in a courtesy call recently, informed Governor Espino that Pangasinan maintains its status as “a consistent top-producer of chief girls scout medallists” and among the active and best-performing GSP councils of the country.
Elated over the positive developments of the scouting movement in the province, Governor Espino, in response, assured the continuing support of his administration to the GSP Pangasinan Council, as he urged the council executives to help “redefine the meaning of scouting movement in the society.”
A known scouting movement advocate, Governor Espino pointed out that scouting must again be integrated in the basic education curriculum to serve as an avenue to teach children the principles of discipline, good leadership and responsibilities and duties they ought to perform for the country.
This, he added, is vital in molding the youth to become active partners for the over-all development of Pangasinan.
Meanwhile, the GSP council’s request for the construction of a two-storey extension building of their headquarters has been approved by the governor, but shall be included on the annual investment plan of the province for next year.
It was learned that the extension building shall be utilized as a multi-purpose center for meetings and activities of the council, and a dorm where scouts could stay overnight.
Governor Espino, however, suggested that for the meantime the council may use the dorm facilities of the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC).
In a show of support Board Member Mojamito Libunao and his wife, Irene Libunao, former San Fabian Mayor, also attended the courtesy call.
The GSP, with more than 100, 000 members in Pangasinan at present, also aims to invite the out-of-school-youth (OSY) and barangay officials to engage in the scouting movement.
