Engineer Emily Joyce Ekwey dela Cruz, a Tabukeña is among the top passers of the Mining Engineer Licensure Examination held last August 9-11 in various cities in the country.
Engr. Dela Cruz garnered a rating of 87.05% and the 8th highest score among the 206 successful examinees. According to the Philippine Regulation Commission, a total of 274 took the Licensure Examination this year.
Simply called Emily by her peers, she grew up in Tabuk and spent a couple of her elementary years at Bulanao Central School. She finished her bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering at the University of the Philippines in Diliman in July 2020.
Ms. Dela Cruz said while she is happy of her achievement, it is bittersweet as she had to overcome the loss of her grandmother who passed away on the second day of the 3-day examination, and her grandfather who also passed away last January 2021.
“It is very sad for me really that my celebration cannot be complete. How I wish they were still here to witness this and that they are still with us in celebrating this achievement,” Ms. dela Cruz said in an interview.
Engineer Emily Joyce Ekwey dela Cruz is the daughter of Charlito Angadol dela Cruz, a government employee from Nambaran, Tabuk City, Kalinga, and Muriel Ekwey dela Cruz, a native of Benguet/Mt. Province who is presently working as a nurse in Sweden.
