LAGAYAN, Abra – A barangay tanod died while three others were unhurt after their group was fired upon by still unidentified armed men at barangay Pang-ot here recently.
Senior Superintendent Albertlito S. Garcia, director of the Abra provincial police office, identified the fatality as Gilbert Pasiguen Tebia, a barangay tanod of Pang-ot, Lagayan, Abra.
His unhurt colleagues were barangay kagawads Noel Silbaw and Aurelio Dayaoen and his fellow barangay tanod Joy Teofilo.
Initial investigation showed the victims were conducting routine patrol in their barangay when they were suddenly fired upon by still unidentified armen that led to their scampering for safety and that Tebia was earlier declared missing.
After a few hours, Tebia was found lifeless along the river in their place. He reportedly sustained several gunshot wounds on his nape and left leg.
Garcia disclosed joint personnel of the Lagayan municipal police station with augmentation from the provincial intelligence branch are now in the town conducting further investigation and intelligence build that will lead to the identity of the suspects who committed the crime.
