TINEG, Abra January 11 – A 33-year old barangay tanod died after he was shot by still unidentified armed assailants when he left his relatives in a drinking session at Agsimao, here, recently.
Police authorities identified the fatality as Edgardo Betguen Sagudang, 33, married, farmer, Barangay Tanod of barangay Cogon, Tineg, Abra.
Initial police investigation showed the victim visited his relatives in barangay and had a drinking spree with them.
After having taken a substantial amount of liquor, he decided to leave his relatives but after a few seconds, a burst of gunfire that emanated from a still undisclosed direction was heard.
When barangay officials and his relatives when to check on what happened, they were surprised to see the lifeless body of the victim sprawled bloodied on the ground.
Responding police operatives were able to recover spent shells and deformed slugs of a calibre 5.56 rifle which was used by the suspects in the perpetration of the crime.
Probers are still conducting investigation to ascertain the motive behind the brutal murder of the barangay tanod.
