Bontoc, Mountain Province – The Mountain Province office of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and its partners have produced 2,080 pieces of flavored cupcakes for distribution to Covid-19 frontliners, the office reported on Wednesday.
“Since the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon, we handed over 2,080 pieces of flavored cupcakes to the different frontliners deployed in various areas here in Mountain Province,” said Eduardo Tamayao, TESDA Mountain Province Acting Provincial Director, adding, that was in partnership with the Arete Technological Training Center and the Competency Assessors Association of Mountain Province.
The flavors are vanilla, cheese, lemon, pandan, strawberry, and mango.
On March 16,2020, TESDA Director General Isidro Lapeña issued a directive that the agency will provide assistance and support to efforts in containing COVID-19 through which the provincial office joined in the “bayanihan” efforts of TESDA-CAR.
He explained there is no technical-voc institution offering dressmaking or tailoring program in the province, hence, instead of producing face masks for the frontliners, they baked flavored cupcakes.
The cupcakes were given to frontliners managing the different checkpoints at the Bontoc Circle area, Chico Bridge, in front of Chakas Building and Bontoc Provincial Capitol on March 25-26, 2020.
“We also distributed cupcakes to persons deprived of liberty at the Mt. Province District Jail, to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management, Bontoc General Hospital, to Barangays Caluttit and Poblacion, and to the Provincial Security Services Office/General Services Office on April 14, 2020,” he said.
On April 16, 2020, they targeted the municipality of Sadanga with three checkpoints located at Anabel, Ampawilen and Mamaga for the cupcake distribution. Barangay Mamaga lies in the border between Mountain Province and Kalinga.
“We will also distributed cupcakes to the Municipalities of Barlig, Natonin, and Paracelis on April 22, 2020 through the Philippine Red Cross -Mountain Province Chapter. These efforts of the TESDA and its partners will be continuing commitment,” Engr. Tamayao said.
