TABUK CITY, Kalinga – A 50-year old woman died after she allegedly fell and drowned in the irrigation canal at Purok 6, Bulanao here Sunday.
Senior Superintendent Victor Wanchakan, officer-in-charge of the Kalinga Provincial Police Office, identified the drowning victim as Mayet Lugao Aluyan, 50, single, native of Lubuagan Kalinga and a resident of FF-Cruz, Purok-6, Bulanao, Tabuk City, Kalinga.
Initial police investigation showed that the victim was taking care of her older sister who was reportedly suffering from mental illness when she woke up Sunday morning and decided to roam around the area.
However, probers believe that victim slipped and fell into the irrigation canal until she was seen by concerned residents floating in the area.
Rescuers immediately recovered the victim’s body from the irrigation canal and tried to revive her but their efforts were in vain.
Probers found no signs of external injuries on the victim’s body that might have contributed to her death.
The victim’s cadaver was brought to their residence for her to be given a descent burial.
