BANGKOK, Thailand – The Apayao Eagles Taekwondo Club (AETC) dominated another international taekwondo event as they emerged victorious at the 6th Heroes Taekwondo International Championship held in Bangkok, Thailand from July 1-2, 2023.
Their performance led to an impressive medal haul of 34, reinforcing their position as one of the leading taekwondo clubs in the said tournament.
Under the guidance of AETC owner and head coach Ruth Viernes, the talented athletes displayed their athletic prowess across different categories, securing a total of seven gold, 15 silver, and 12 bronze medals.
Among the standout medalists was Viernes herself, who exemplified excellence in individual poomsae, pair poomsae, team poomsae, and sparring. Viernes’s skills were further acknowledged as she was honored as the Best Poomsae Player over 35 years old.
Karlea Juan demonstrated exceptional talent in sparring as she bagged the gold medal in this category, while also securing a silver medal in team poomsae. Kyra Lexi Juan, meantime, obtained a silver medal in team poomsae and bronze medals in pair poomsae and sparring.
Karl Venson Yacas showcased mastery of individual poomsae, while also clinching bronze medals in pair poomsae and team poomsae. Amber Iloreta, also victorious in individual poomsae, secured a silver medal in pair poomsae.
Zirylle Mae Membrot won silver medals in individual poomsae and pair poomsae, along with a bronze medal in sparring. Wakeisha Jeanmar Tabula contributed to the team’s success with a silver medal in team poomsae and a bronze medal in individual poomsae. Other notable medalists include Daveley Carl Tacdag Ramirez, Jiande III Paranal, Bhea Begay, Leif Einstein Begay, Arich Stephanie Bayuga, Ma Frances B. Aguirre, and Chloe Michaella Calver.
Brimming with pride, Viernes lauded her jins for their outstanding performances throughout the competition.
“I hope that you have learned from the experiences you encountered on the podium, which will drive you towards your goals and set even higher aspirations. I am proud of each and every one of you,” expressed Viernes.
Moreover, Viernes extended her gratitude to Cassandra Haller, the event organizer, for extending an invitation to her team to participate in what she described as “one of the best competitions” they have encountered thus far.
The AETC also expressed their appreciation to the parents, whose support and guidance played a crucial role in molding these young heroes, transforming them into an inspiration for many.
The AETC likewise acknowledged the support they received from Gov. Elias Bulut, Jr. and the entire province of Apayao, whose encouragement propelled them forward in their journey to the international podium.
