LUNA, Apayao – Provincial Governor Elias C. Bulut, Jr. led the distribution of cash incentives to deserving athletes who participated in the second leg of Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) Meet 2023.
It could be remembered that team games were held later in May 2023 in various provinces of the region following suggestions that volleyball games, basketball and other sports which were not played during the first leg of the CARAA Meet be held.
A total of 21 volleyball athletes who won gold medals in the Elementary and Secondary girls’ divisions were awarded a cheque amounting to ten thousand pesos (₱10,000.00) each from the provincial government. Additionally, their coaches received three thousand pesos (₱3,000) each.
Out of the 21 athletes, 12 were from Alem Elementary School and 9 were from Pudtol Vocational High School. These volleyball athletes are among the many achievers who represented the province in various events at the 2023 CARAA meet where the province placed second behind Baguio City.
Gold medalists received ₱10,000, silver medalists got ₱7,000, and bronze medalists were given ₱5,000.
During the awarding ceremony, Gov. Bulut expressed his admiration for the athletes’ courageous spirit in bringing honor to the province. He encouraged them to continue their journey by dedicating more time to enhancing their skills. He also commended the coaches for bringing out the best in their trainees.
Elementary teacher and coach, Myrien Agustin, expressed her gratitude to the PGA thanking “our supportive Governor for this generous reward given to our young athletes during CARAA. It greatly helps them improve their skills, provides the necessary equipment for future competitions, and shows that our province is there to support them.”
