LUNA, Apayao – The Schools Division Office (SDO) Apayao bared the schedule of the highly-anticipated provincial athletic meet, slated on February 24 to 26, 2023.
This sporting event will be held at the Apayao Eco Tourism and Sports Complex, along with various other venues in Luna, Pudtol, Flora, and Santa Marcela.
During the Kapehan sa Kapitolyo session on February 19, SDO Apayao Sports Coordinator Marlon Trumpo, disclosed that a total of 23 regular events and one special sport will be competed.
The roster of events include archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, basketball, football, chess, boxing, billiards, baseball, gymnastics, sepak takraw, swimming, softball, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, dance sport, futsal, pencak silat, wushu, wrestling, volleyball, and the inclusion of bocce as special event.
Trumpo further underscored that the DepEd has upheld the “winner takes all” principle, wherein representatives from each event will hail from a single champion school, with the aim of fortifying sports programs within schools. This principle will apply in the selection of athletes to compete in the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) meet, and Palarong Pambansa.
Anticipated participation from all seven municipalities in the province is projected to yield 400 athletes per school district, totaling to 2800 competitors vying for honors over the course of the three-day sporting event.
In addition, a Kapehan sa DepEd and CARAA Board Meeting is scheduled for February 22, geared towards the planning for the province’s forthcoming hosting duties of CARAA Meet 2024 on April. Proposed billeting schools will undergo inspection, and working committees and tasks will be finalized during this gathering. By JCM
