LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – A 53-year old Army reservist died after he was shot on his head by a still unidentified assailant while buying something inside a store at Buyagan, Poblacion, here, Wednesday morning.
Chief Inspector Benson Macli-ing, chief of the La Trinidad Municipal Police Station, identified the fatality as Maj. Daniel Lacpap, 53, an Army reservist and a resident of Poblacion, La Trinidad, Benguet while he described the suspect to be wearing white bonet, surgical mask, nylon white jacket, maong pants and black leather shoes.
Initial police investigation showed the victim went to a store in the place of incident to buy something when the lone gun-wielding suspect suddenly came from behind and shot him once on his head at close range with the bullet exiting on his forehead.
The victim was rushed to the Benguet General Hospital (BGH) for medical treatment but he was pronounced dead on arrival by attending physicians while the suspect fled towards a still undisclosed direction carrying with him the firearm used.
Recovered from the crime scene by responding police operatives and elements of the Scene of the Crime Operation (SOCO) team was a spent shell and s slug of a calibre .45 pistol which was used by the suspect in the perpetration of the crime.
Witnesses informed that there had been a still unidentified male person who had been allegedly subjecting the victim to surveillance over the past several days and that the suspect is ow the subject of a manhunt operation.
