TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The 4-H Club Federation of Tabuk City has called out the attention of some barangays to organize their respective 4-H Club for them to participate in relevant activities of the city government, Department of Agriculture, and other institutions.
The 4-H Club Federation reported that among the 43 barangays in the city, there are only 23 clubs that are organized and actively participating in various government activities.
According to Tabuk City 4-H Club Federation President Giovanni Addatu, the 4-H Club is an organization of out-of-school youth (OSY) and in-school youth (ISY) involved in agriculture programs and livelihood projects for the development of the head, heart, hands, and health.
The club provides the youth with opportunities to “learn by doing” through individual, group, and community projects. Also, it enhances productivity and self-reliance through gainful projects and instills in the youth the spirit of volunteerism, cooperation, and dignity of labour.
Additionally, those who want to join the 4H Club in their barangays must be single and ages from 10 to 30 years old. Membership is open and voluntary.
He explained that there are numerous opportunities when the youth members have organized and registered their club because they can join various activities and competitions in the city up to the national level.
He further cited that there are some members of the city who have joined internship programs in countries such as Japan, Taiwan, and others, to experience the way of farming various commodities with the use of technology that they can share in their respective communities.
Members of 4H clubs can also propose funding to the government and other institutions involving agricultural projects that they can implement in their respective barangays. By Ian Jefrey Addatu
