BAGUIO CITY – The Cordillera Regional Development Council’s Committee on Indigenous Peoples’ Concerns (CIPC) affirmed its support to initiatives in promoting indigenous peoples (IP) culture and their rights during its 1st Quarter Meeting on February 23, 2024, in Baguio City.
Mr. Michael Umaming of the Cordillera National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP-CAR) presented their initiatives in preparing the guidelines in wearing Cordillera indigenous attires.
The committee welcomed this initiative and recommended the involvement of the academe and other stakeholders in their upcoming activities.
It also formed the Technical Working Group (TWG) for the proposed Dad-An Tako Mining Summit. The Dad-an Tako is an annual knowledge sharing platform and the banner program of the Committee conducted every October in support of the commemoration of the Indigenous Peoples Month.
The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) presented updates on the Cultural Mapping Program that aims to consolidate Local Culture Profiles and establish baseline data for cultural statistics. The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) was encouraged to motivate Local Government Units (LGUs) to engage in cultural mapping to enhance the preservation of the region’s indigenous assets.
The Committee is chaired by Mountain Province Gov. Bonifacio C. Lacwasan, Jr.with Ms. Edna C. Tabanda as its Co-Chair and in its members are from government agencies, the academe, and the private sector. By Mary Rose R. Elcano and Aries Dos Campos
