ITOGON, Benguet – Benguet Caretaker Congressman and Anti-Crime and Terrorism through Community Involvement and Support (ACT-CIS) Party-list Rep. Eric Go Yap led public works, municipal, barangay and education officials in the ground-breaking and laying of the time capsule for the construction of a 2-storey 6-classroom building of the Midas Elementary School during simple ceremonies held at Sitio Midas, Barangay Ucab, here, Thursday afternoon.
Yap, who chairs the House Committee on Appropriations, was joined by DPWH-FBED officials and employees led by District Engineer Ireneo S. Gallato and Assistant District Benny Mendoza, Itogon municipal and barangay officials headed by Mayor Victorio Palangdan, barangay officials led by Liga ng mga Barangay president and Councilor Noel Bilibli, school officials and residents in the said community.
He said that sourcing out the funds for the priority programs, projects and activities of the different municipalities and the province is part of his service to the people of Benguet who had long wanted short- medium and long-term projects that will contribute to enhancing their lives, especially those in the rural areas who should get the most out of the services of the government.

On March 8, 2018, an early evening fire gutted the information and communication technology (ICT) building of the Midas Elementary School burning to ashes all the equipment, school properties and personal belongings of the students and teachers.
On his part, Gallato explained the construction of the school building involves the new design as agreed upon by technical personnel of the public works and education departments where the structure will have 5 standard comfort rooms, 2 for each floor and 1 dedicated for persons with disabilities; ceiling fans for each classroom; sliding windows with iron grills, railings with grills and slope protection and fence.
He added the contractor is given some 180 days to complete the project in time for use by pupils of the school when face-to-face classes will resume in the next schoolyear.
The district engineer claimed the approved plans and specifications of the school building could still be subjected to the allowed variations, provided that, the changes to be introduced to the original plans will be needed by the end users – the teachers and the students.
He urged the school, barangay, municipal officials to ensure they properly coordinate with each in monitoring the project implementation to ensure the structure will be completed pursuant to the needs of the end users in time for the resumption of face-to-face classes in public schools next year.
