The Department of Education (DepEd) of La Trinidad District conducted the First Consultative Meeting on July 16, 2021 at the Benguet State University closed gym. The meeting was participated in by all school heads both elementary and secondary schools in the district of La Trinidad, barangay chairs of all the barangays from La Trinidad, all PTA presidents from the different schools in the elementary and secondary, personnel from Schools Division Office of Benguet headed by the Division Superintendent Gloria B. Buya-ao, personnel from the DepEd regional office headed by the Regional Director Estella L. Carino, local governments headed by the Mayor Romeo K. Salda, and the Benguet State University represented by President Felipe S. Comila. Participants were all set free releasing stress from this world of pandemic after the warmth welcome by the two dignitaries, President Comila and the La Trinidad vice-mayor Roderick Awingan who both emphasised the importance of education.
The former stressed on the university’s role in bringing education to the people and the latter’s appreciation of this first meeting to talk with partners after a year and months of pandemic where the education of children is most affected.
Carino initiated the meeting to settle all concerns specially on school matters which were brought out by school heads, barangay chairmen, and PTA presidents in a very meaningful sharing where responses to all queries were answered by all concerned.
In this meeting, stakeholders in all schools know how and where they can help in the accomplishment of school projects, programs and activities. The most common concern raised was on school site ownership where the Benguet Division Superintendent Gloria B. Buya-ao appealed to the municipal mayor to make all public elementary and secondary schools be named under DepEd.
Other features of the consultative meeting were the presentation of school initiatives where learning took place in the new normal. The i-click modality used by the Benguet National High School was a success where the learning or learners partake in an off-line or online activity.
To complete the purpose of the meeting, the group made school visits after lunch to Tacdian Elementary School (ES), Lamut ES, Eastern La Trinidad National High School, Bekkel ES, Ambiong ES, and Ambiong National High School. By Veronica C. Patinglag
