LUNA, Apayao – In a continuing effort to bridge the digital divide in Apayao province, the Cordillera office of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT- CAR) has expanded the Free-WiFi-for-all program, providing free public internet access in remote areas.
Regional Director of DICT-CAR Engr. Reynaldo T. Sy spearheaded the turnover of Starlink Internet to six beneficiaries belonging to geographically isolated disadvantaged areas during the Apayao 29th Founding Anniversary culminating program on February 13 at the Apayao Eco-Tourism and Sports Complex.
In his message, Sy said they “hope that through this, everyone can develop and empower themselves as they connect and participate in the growing digital economy. With the continued cooperation and support of this office and everyone, it is believed that we feel that this project is a great help to everyone. Rest assured that the DICT CAR assistance and support on ICT needs of the province of Apayao.”
Sy requested that the leaders of the barangays do their part in informing the people in their area of said availability of net access.
The DICT-CAR Free WiFi team evaluated areas and proposed connecting locations in the province with poor or no signal or internet at all.
The office successfully installed the units from February 13-16, 2024 in Barangay Katablangan of Conner, Barangay Bulu of Kabugao, Barangay Tanglagan of Calanasan, Barangay Upper Atok of Flora, Barangay Consuelo of Santa Marcela and Tawit National High School of Pudtol.
Responding to the growing importance of communication and digital connectivity, the DICT CAR established the DICT Free WiFi for All program, which aims to connect Filipinos through the provision of free WiFi in public places. By Krizza Castillo
