TABUK CITY, Kalinga – The Kalinga cultural legacy is poised to have a permanent haven as the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) has granted approval for the establishment of the Kalinga Cultural Center and Museum.
Following the NCCA’s approval of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR), which outline the crucial project guidelines, the Kalinga Culture and Arts Council, led by Governor James Edduba, convened a meeting on September 12 to discuss the formation of a technical working group responsible for drafting the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) and overseeing the entire establishment process.
The council also deliberated on the museum’s proposed location behind the Capitol building as well as its role as a hub for gathering and curating cultural literary works, music, dances, stories, historical accounts, artifacts, and more.
‘’The museum will serve as the institutional medium for safeguarding, preserving, showcasing, and promoting Kalinga’s rich cultural, artistic, archaeological, social, historical, religious, and philosophical heritage,’’ the IRR reads.
According to Provincial Tourism Officer Lorraine Ngao-i, the museum has an initial funding of PhP100 million under the General Appropriation Act, with a projected construction date for next year.
On May 2022, then President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act 11770, the law authorizing the creation of the Kalinga Cultural Center and Museum. By Ruth Cupang
