BAGUIO CITY — The University of the Philippines Baguio (UPB) launched the first day of Social Innovation Laboratory and Business Inclusion (SILBI) entitled, ‘Pan-Adivay: A Mandeko & SILBI Series of Lecture and Workshops.’ on October 10 at the Newtown Plaza Hotel. The event featured understanding of Design Thinking, inspiring creativity and innovation participated by various universities in the city.
Lecture on Design Thinking was led by Assistant Professor Design Soriano who emphasized on giving support and training to existing entrepreneurs. He introduced participants with tools to identify and address problems in the community with highlights in innovation.
Afterwards, a workshop was conducted which engaged participants to utilize collaboration to creatively provide solutions to community problems which they also presented.
Furthermore, Soriano shared the importance of Design Thinking to the younger generation, “Very important si design thinking because it allows you to actually invoke your personal skills and talents, but at the same time contribute something sa mas malaking table ng solutions and alternatives na meron na tayo,” he exclaimed.
Moreover, Elke Cadange, the owner of Tingi Station said, “It was eye-opening din, in a way, nagkaroon ako ng bagong deeper understanding…how things work, how business work, how designs work, how to design a solution to a pressing problem,” on what she have learned during an interview.
Additionally, Robbie Robles, a participant, expressed her satisfaction and fulfillment upon applying the lessons from the lecture to the workshop.
