LUNA, Apayao – At least 30 residents from the Municipality of Sta. Marcela recently completed their Electrical Installation Maintenance (EIM) Training through the Mobile Training Laboratory of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) here which aims to provide easier access to technical vocational trainings.
“The training they received enabled them to perform roughing-in activities, wiring and cabling works for single-phase distribution, power, lighting and auxiliary systems, install electrical protective devices for distribution, power, lighting, auxiliary, lightning protection and grounding systems, install wiring devices of floor and wall mounted outlets, lighting fixtures/switches, and auxiliary outlets,” said Engr. Victor Brioso, TESDA Apayao Provincial Driector.
Adding, “The MTL beneficiaries will be able to save on transportation costs and allowances. They don’t have to be separated from their families while learning the skills they need to acquire.”
PD Brioso explained that MTL is part is part of government’s efforts to develop and deliver a community-based training platform for the unreached and underserved sectors of society.
Among the trainings offered under the MTL are Appliance Repair, Cellphone Repair, Plumbing, Electrical Installation and Maintenance, Small Engine Repair, Cookery, Bread and Pastry and Food Processing.
He said that each MTL has a complete set of training tools (curriculum, learning materials, and assessment tools, among others), multimedia equipment and accessories.
PD Brioso said that skills training provided by TESDA is in line with the directive of President Rodrigo Duterte to improve the lives of the people and to alleviate poverty.
“This is how we empower the IP community including the marginalized sector. We bring the government services closer to them,” he said.
The recipients of the training were farmers, fisheries, 4Ps members and Indigenous People.
“Rest assured that TESDA-Apayao will continue to provide skills training to communities,” PD Brioso emphasized.
To date, TESDA-Apayao has trained a total of 101 trainees under the Electrical Installation Maintenance qualification through the MTL project.
