MANKAYAN, Benguet– The municipal government lauded the voluntary efforts of kind-hearted vegetable farmers from barangay Balili for donating their vegetable produce to residents in other areas of the municipality who were heavily impacted by the implementation of the community quarantine.
Mayor Frenzel A. Ayong said the decision of vegetable farmers to donate their produce to residents who still need relief assistance is highly commendable and worthy of emulation because instead of bringing their supply to the trading centers and incur additional expenses without gaining something in return, they voluntarily donated the same to people who are in need.
“We did not compel our farmers to donate their produce that had been affected by the very cheap buying prices at the different trading centers. We commend our vegetable farmers because they did not leave their produce to rot in their farms but saw to it that these will be given to residents who are still in need,” Mayor Ayong stressed.
Earlier, vegetable farmers from Balili donated to the municipal government several tons of cabbage they were not able to deliver to the different trading centers because of the very low buying prices of agricultural crops and the same were eventually distributed as part of the relief assistance to residents of Marivic and Upper Sapid.

Previously, Mayor Ayong disclosed that vegetable farmers from the different vegetable-producing barangays were also supplied assorted vegetables that were bought and subsequently distributed to the different local governments and groups that requested assistance from the municipality at the height of the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine.
