TABUK CITY, Kalinga– The timely delivery of health care services and emergency and disaster risk response got an added boost after the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) Kalinga branch manager Romel Ramos informed Mayor Darwin C. Estrañero that the city government is assured of an ambulance unit under PCSO’s medical transport vehicle donation program as long as the city can beat the deadline to complete the documentary requirements for the said grant.
He added that Tabuk City has been given the priority to avail of the benefits of the medical transport vehicle program over other cities and municipalities nationwide.
Earlier, the city government submitted the documentary requirements needed by the PCSO for an ambulance under the said program to improve the timely delivery of health care services and for effective and efficient emergency response during human-induced and natural calamities.
However, the PCSO discovered the city government lacked most important requirement, the resolution from the city council authorizing the City Mayor to sign the deed of donation of the ambulance on behalf of the city.

Mayor Estrañero immediately requested the city legislative body to convene in a special session for the passage of the required resolution so that the city can avail of the grant from the charity institution, especially that the city needs more emergency vehicles for the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) response operations for the immediate isolation of infected patients from the different parts of the city.
The City Council, in the absence of Vice Mayor Bernard Glenn Dao-as, approved the request of the mayor for the passage of this resolution authorizing the latter to represent the city government in the signing of the deed of donation for the ambulance under the PCSO’s medical transport vehicle donation program.
Tabuk is the second city in the Cordillera having been established in 2007 after the Supreme Court (SC) ruled with finality declaring as constitutional the creation of 16 additional cities despite the stiff opposition from the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP).
Mayor Estrañero expressed his gratitude to the members of the city’s legislative body for heeding his appeal to convene a special session to grant him the authority to represent the city government in the signing of the deed of donation for the ambulance.
He disclosed that the ambulance form the PCSO will be used to augment the city’s fleet of emergency vehicles for various emergency operations.
Tabuk City is composed of 43 barangays and owns the distinction of being the third largest city in the country in terms of land area.
